The background

Hand Embroidery is something that most girls or women get interested in at some point in time. It does not really matter at what age the interest grows. Ultimately, at some point, almost every girl or woman has the urge to do some embroidery projects, be it a table runner or bag or cushion cover or even a dress. The same urge happened to me. I'm not an expert nor a pro. I'm a learner. This is all new for me. I was actually working as a Client Relations Facilitator for a Web Developing company. After delivering my baby, I found working for a company to be boring and tiresome. Moreover, I got interested in learning embroidery. Recently, I have come across few books on hand embroidery and these books have encouraged me a lot to learn this art. I will be mentioning the books' names and references later.

I am from Bangladesh, which is an under developed country. Here, the concept of embroidery is a little bit different from the western world. People do free style embroideries more than the counted stitches. Over here, hand embroideries are mainly done on dresses; i.e. Salwar kamiz and Saris for ladies; and Panjabi for males. All the decorative stitches on fabrics give an elegant and nice look to the dresses people wear. But the problem is that in most cases the finishing of the stitches is not good. This is because the embroiderers lack sufficient training. They used to rush to learn few stiches so they can start selling their fabrics. This trend is changing. Embroiderers over here are trying to be more professional. These people are getting trained, doing sample works and then getting involved in any embroidery business.
So, here I am trying to take embroidery as a profession by learning the stitches and techniques. In this blog, I'll be sharing my knowledge that I get from the books and magazines. I hope you'll follow me through this journey.
